Spring landscape maintenance techniques your landscape maintenance provider should be executing during spring months, in order to prep for summer.

Spring is a great time to get outside and enjoy our wonderful San Diego weather. Having a well maintained landscape and common area makes being outside even more pleasurable and adds value to your property. At Pacific Green Landscape, we know that they are a few tasks that need to be done now – before spring has arrived to ensure that your landscape and common areas will look beautiful throughout spring and the many months ahead.

What your landscape maintenance provider should be doing before spring arrives:

Irrigation

Your landscape needs to receive the right amount of water to thrive without wasting one of our state’s most precious resources.

That’s why it is especially important to check your irrigation system now –to verify water coverage is appropriate, look for broken heads and check for pipe leaks. At Pacific Green Landscape, we continually check irrigation systems and maintain regular upkeep year round. Also, we are experts in system repairs, restoration and installation – if you decide that your current system does not meet your needs. We stay current and up to date on all the state-of-the-art, water saving technology available.

Additionally, Pacific Green Landscape employs certified California Landscape Contractors Association (CLCA) Water Managers. These staff members are an invaluable resource when it comes to troubleshooting any kind of problem in the irrigation system, as well as installing it correctly in the first place. Call us anytime with your irrigation questions or to discuss your property’s water management needs.

Turf

Your residents love a well-manicured lawn. To ensure a vigorous turf, Pacific Green Landscape recommends three important tasks before spring …

Apply Pre-emergent Herbicides

Pacific Green Landscape applies pre-emergent herbicides to turf now. This will suppress the weeds so they don’t “pop” in the spring months and helps to maintain a relatively weed free lawn for the months ahead. This application really helps with the targeted control of crabgrass too! Crabgrass infestations can really detract from your turf areas appeal and health.

Fertilize

Right now is a good time to fertilize your turf. However, depending on the type of turf, some fertilizers work better than others.  Pacific Green Landscape has the knowledge and experience to know which fertilizer works best for your type of turf.

Aerate

Before spring is a great time for aeration. Pacific Green Landscape recommends having your turf aerated at least once a year. In heavy use turf, it may be advisable to aerate several times throughout the year.   Aeration is an important step in maintaining a beautiful, healthy lawn. It helps the turf absorb water better, gets oxygen in the soil and gives the roots a chance to breath.

Talk to your Pacific Green Landscape representative about your fertilizing, aeration and weed control schedule.

Pruning

Depending on the type of plant material you have on your property, now may be a good time to prune. Pruning can be a very useful method that allows for plant rejuvenation. At Pacific Green Landscape we manage and train our crews to landscape with horticultural fundamentals, which is key to long term plant vigor. By showing our crews the proper way to trim plant material, it results in a better bloom, shape and health of the plant. However, there are many plants that do not need pruning or can go through the “natural” pruning cycle. With natural pruning you let the bloom cycles go and enjoy the plants natural beauty. Talk to Pacific Green Landscape about a pruning schedule or which plants have a natural pruning cycle.

By preparing now and accomplishing these few task, your landscape will look its best just in time for you to enjoy spring!
